Our All-Encompassing Spring Cleaning Checklist for 2022

It’s that time of year again when old clothes need to be sorted through, window crevices need to be scrubbed, and outdoor furniture needs to come out of hibernation. It’s the season of spring cleaning!

Spring cleaning can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! With a clear plan of attack, spring cleaning will be a breeze. Now is the perfect time to stock up on some cleaning supplies if you ran out of your favorite cleaning products within the last year.
We have compiled a few of our best spring cleaning tips to add to your spring cleaning to-do list!

Home

The home is where the heart is, which is why this is the perfect place to begin your spring cleaning journey. Feeling clean in the space you spend the most time in can help with more than just visual serenity. A clean space can help you feel more at ease mentally as well.
Taking control of your environment can help you feel as if you are in the driver’s seat of your life, something that some of us feel we often lose to the hustle and bustle around us.

Little things such as cleaning your window screens and ceiling fans are something we rarely take the time to do but are extremely needed.

Kitchen

Kitchens are graveyards for the remnants of burnt-on food stuck to the stove, month-old toaster crumbs, and long-forgotten items in the back of your kitchen cabinets. Your kitchen probably needs some TLC even if it doesn’t look like it on the surface.
You can clean the majority of kitchen surfaces with mild cleaning products like dish soap, but tougher stains might require stronger chemicals or steel wool. We recommend using rubber gloves when working with harsher chemicals that can be toxic to your skin in large amounts.

Melt away any clogged remnants of food that could be contributing to an odd stench coming from your kitchen sink. You can do this by mixing baking soda, hot water, and white distilled vinegar to clean out your garbage disposal. This is an easy cleaning solution made with products you most likely already own.
Another one of our cleaning tips is to pay attention to areas of your kitchen you often tend to overlook. For many of us, this is our oven. Luckily, cleaning your oven is relatively easy by utilizing an oven cleaner to get rid of old food buildup inside.

Bathroom

Spring cleaning is all about taking time to clean the little details of a space. In tile bathrooms, grout lines collect dirt and appear darker in color which makes them more noticeable. These can be scrubbed out with a crevice tool, scrub sponge, or hard-bristled toothbrush.
Similar to kitchen drains, you can pour a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar down your bathroom sink and shower drain to dissolve any clogged hair that is slowing the water drainage rate.
Is the water pressure in your shower getting weaker? The solution to this is to soak your shower head in a plastic bag filled with vinegar to clear the build-up of mineral deposits that are blocking water from flowing out. Clearing this will restore the water pressure of your shower and eliminate the need for buying a replacement.

Mold and soap can begin to coat the bottom of plastic shower curtains. Fortunately, these are machine washable on a cold water setting with a mild detergent and a little bleach. To prevent wrinkling in the washing machine, add in a few bath towels with the curtain. Another shower hack is to keep a shower cleaner spray bottle to use after you finish showering that will prevent soap scum build-up. You can also wipe down the walls of your shower with a dry cloth or squeegee to prevent mildew build-up.

Bedroom

A clean room can help clear your mind and make you feel more at ease. When you start each morning in a clean space, you are more motivated to keep it that way.

Simply taking dirty clothes out of your bedroom and into the laundry room can make you feel more productive. Clean out your closet and bring out your spring and summer clothes. Your closet can be home to hidden dust bunnies that never see the light of day, but it is time for them to go!

Next, start a machine wash of your sheets utilizing your favorite scented laundry detergent. Following this, pick items up off the floor and vacuum the area. Now you are ready to dive into a deep clean of the rest of your room.
This can be done by using a clean cloth to dust surfaces, wiping down mirrors with glass cleaner, and clearing out any cluttered items you no longer need.

Furniture

Frequently used furniture can be susceptible to stubborn stains. The majority of stains are easy to get out with a little elbow grease and a cleaning solution.
For stubborn dirt, soak removable pillow and couch covers in your bathtub or a bin with hot water and baking soda, then throw them into a gentle wash in the washing machine. This will return them back to their original color and make them look brand new!

Wooden tables and chairs are susceptible to scuffs around the legs from frequent kicks with shoes. Wood furniture can look brand new with a glossy wood polish to dust and make it shine.
There is furniture made out of certain fabrics that require special cleaning. One of these is leather. Surface stains can typically be wiped away with a wet cloth, but you need to be careful when using cleaning solutions to not damage the material. Stay away from cleaning products with acetone because this will wear away at the leather’s protective layer and can cause discoloration. When leather gets worn down and splits, a leather upholstery repair is needed.

Car

We spend a lot of time in our cars and in the busyness of life, it can be hard to find time to frequently clean it out. Luckily, we have several spring cleaning tips for you!
If you have children or pets you know that the carpet in your car can suffer from tough stains. Sprinkling baking soda on your carpets prior to using a vacuum cleaner can help deodorize any stench that has been stewing. Soaking caked-in stains in warm water prior to scrubbing them can make it easier to get them out.

Spring cleaning is the perfect time for getting in between hard-to-reach places around the buttons of your center console. A damp microfiber cloth can wipe away any surface dirt on the doors and dashboard.
If your car has a leather interior it is important to clean and condition it regularly. This helps to preserve, protect, and keep the leather smelling new! The best practice is to condition the leather at least once a month, but we suggest putting it on your spring cleaning to-do list as well.

Restaurant

This one is something many of us might not think of when constructing our spring cleaning checklist. If you are a restaurant owner, or if you work in a restaurant as an employee, it is time to take initiative and clean the spaces that are sometimes neglected.

For example, the coffee maker in your restaurant could be in desperate need of deep cleaning. We’re talking about taking apart every piece and soaking in soapy water kind of cleaning. A thorough cleaning of your restaurant should happen regularly, but spring cleaning is a time to dig a little deeper to set yourself up for success as traffic increases due to warmer weather.
Here are a few spring cleaning tips for restaurants:

  • Take your soda machine apart and clean each part thoroughly
  • Organize your storage room and freezer and throw out old supplies and food
  • Go through the silverware and get rid of damaged utensils
  • Wipe down walls and clean floors behind your equipment
  • Shampoo your dining area carpets
  • Deep clean your all of your kitchen equipment

Wipe down stainless steel appliances to get rid of grease coatings that collect higher up towards the ceiling. Additionally, you can sponge mop your tile floors to lift any dirt buildup that has been accumulating.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to protect you and your family from fires is to install smoke alarms in your home. Thankfully, the majority of homes now have smoke alarms installed when homes are built. However, almost three out of five home fire deaths were caused by fires in properties with no smoke alarms or smoke alarms that failed to operate. If you are living in a home and you notice that there are no smoke alarms, call us at McDowell’s Speciality Repairs. We will come out to your home and install smoke alarms ASAP. We want you to have the peace of mind knowing that your family is safe and protected.

Why Do You Need A Smoke Alarm?

Smoke alarms will warn you of a fire when you are asleep or if you are busy in another room in your home. They will provide you with extra warning time even when you are awake and they will make a very loud beeping noise that will wake you up if you are asleep. A common misconception is that you will smell the smoke of a fire and it will wake you up from even a deep sleep. Even if you’re awake, people believe they will smell a fire that may have started in a different room of the house. These myths are NOT true. Many fires produce odorless gases that are extremely toxic. You will not be able to smell these gases until it is much too late. If you are sleeping, you will be overcome by these gases before even having the time to wake up first. Smoke alarms are life saving warnings that allow you to wake up and get out of your house before you are trapped by the fire or smoke.
Smoke alarms are inexpensive. Battery-operated smoke alarms are available for under $10. Batteries for the smoke alarms can be purchased for around $1 or $2 each. Some of the more modern smoke alarms are available with lithium lifetime batteries. These smoke alarms can be found for approximately $20 and can last for up to 10 years.

Installing Smoke Alarms

One smoke alarm is not enough. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that each floor of a home should have at least one smoke alarm and there should be one smoke alarm outside of each sleeping area in your home. For example, you live in a home with a basement, a first floor with one bedroom, and a second floor with three bedrooms. You will need one smoke alarm in the basement, at least two on the first floor, and at least three on the second floor – one outside of each bedroom. The best place for a smoke alarm is on the ceiling. Try to avoid installing smoke alarms in areas that regularly become hot or cold such as near windows, doors or fireplaces. It’s best to avoid installing smoke alarms in kitchens or bathrooms where steam is common. You should also not install smoke alarms in garages or attics. Read the instructions on the manufacturer instructions for your smoke alarms to make sure everything is done properly.

How To Maintain A Smoke Alarm

Maintenance is the key to safety. Many people have smoke alarms that don’t work. Having a smoke alarm that doesn’t work can be a fatal mistake. Like most equipment in your home, smoke alarms require proper maintenance. The first requirement is to change the batteries in your smoke alarms. For most smoke alarms, you will need to change the batteries once a year. If you have a 10-year lithium powered alarm, you may need to change the batteries only when the alarm fails a test. A smart way to remember when to change your batteries and when to test your smoke alarms is to do it every time you change your clocks for Daylight Savings time every fall and spring. Use quality batteries and after installing, test your smoke alarms to make sure they are working. Most smoke alarms have low battery alert alarms that beep when the battery is low. If you hear this, change the batteries immediately.
Testing a smoke alarm is also important. To do so, push the test button on the alarm. If the alarm sounds, it has passed the test. If the alarm does not sound, change the batteries and try again. If the alarm still does not sound, the alarm is defective and it needs to be replaced.
Cleaning your smoke alarm is also important. The alarm vents can sometimes become clogged with dirt or dust. This will cause the smoke alarm to not work properly. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to clean the vents. In most cases you can use a vacuum cleaner. Just be sure to NEVER paint a smoke alarm; the paint will clog the vents and the smoke alarm will be useless.
Smoke alarms save lives. If your home has smoke alarms, make sure they’re clean, up to date on maintenance, and have new batteries. We understand that this can be overwhelming and that is why we are here to help. Call us today and we will have one of our trusted professionals come out to your home and make sure you and your family’s lives are in good hands.

A doctor’s office or other medical clinics are usually not someone’s favorite place to spend their time. There can be long waits in the lobby and time spent in examination rooms that can be uncomfortable and cause anxiety. Having furniture that promotes a relaxed and calm environment can help reduce a patient’s stress during their visit, benefitting a patient’s well-being and overall health. Below, the McDowells Specialty Repairs team has provided a few situations of when you may need to breathe some life into your old medical office furniture!

If You Are Getting Patient Complaints

Not all patients will be outspoken enough to tell you the furniture needs some updating, so when one does, other patients are likely thinking the same thing! Patient complaints can ruin a business if you do not address them and work to make these necessary changes. If your upholstery is cracking, stained, or worn down from constant use, it is time to look into replacements. Buying all new furniture can get pricey, which is why reupholstering can be a cost-effective way to make your patients happier and improve their overall experience with your office.

To Make The Office Look Better

The first time a patient walks into the reception area and waiting room will have a lasting impression on their opinion of your medical practice. If they walk in and see old, outdated, or broken furniture, they may worry more about whether your practice is even worthy of their business. Having updated or newly reupholstered furniture will help promote a tranquil atmosphere throughout the office and give peace of mind to the patients. This ambiance then carries into the examination rooms where you want to ensure all of your beds and stools are in good condition as well.

If There Are Broken Parts

To avoid injuries or accidents in your office, regularly check if there are any broken pieces of furniture that could be a hazard to your patients and staff. Removing damaged furniture from your office will not only help prevent mishaps, but also will be beneficial for the overall appearance of your medical office. Broken furniture can easily be replaced or fixed and it is not worth leaving it out for any potential accidents!

Who Can I Call For Help?

If you are noticing that your office ambiance is not promoting a calm and stress-reducing environment for your patients, then it may be time for some changes! McDowells offers a wide range of medical furniture repair services to help restore your waiting and examination rooms that save you time and money. Renovating old upholstery is a cheaper alternative to replacing all of the items that need some help. Not only can the McDowells team refresh your equipment, but they can also fix the wood and mechanisms inside your furniture that may be damaged or broken. To further reduce stress for you, most repairs can be done in-office to avoid moving your furniture or being without key pieces for an extended period of time.

If your medical practice has furniture that needs a refresh or you have been getting complaints from patients, McDowells Specialty Repairs can assist in making the necessary alterations. Contact us today for a free estimate!

With the arrival of the first snow, keeping warm becomes top priority.
Utility bills are a major concern for renters and homeowners alike. High bills caused by inefficiencies across a space can hurt your budget. Roommates squabble over the right temperature and homeowners scrutinize the thermostat to maintain a balance between a comfortable living space and affordable utilities. Luckily, there are several simple improvements you can make to lessen your home heating bills.
Coupled with the sticker shock, there’s also the concern of wasted energy and resources. Imagine pumping dollars of heat into a room, only to have it escape out an open window. McDowells is a practical solution to help implement improvements that will lead to cost savings over time.

Minor Repairs and Improvements Can Lead to Big Savings

Putting money into home efficiency improvements may come with an initial price, but the savings over time can be a real incentive. From new “smart” thermostats, to replacing exhausted filters, homeowners can find savings in lots of nooks and crannies.

Properly Seal Windows and Doors

Drafty rooms allow for heat to escape. After putting the money into raising a room’s temperature, allowing it to leak out unsealed windows and doors is counterproductive. Using a thermo gun to find draft and seal draft areas is extremely effective. Whether it is cracked caulking, single pane windows, or missing insulation, ensuring proper sealing in door and window jambs has a big payback.

Maintenance Water Heater and Faucets

Simple maintenance of your water heater can help you save money on the water heating bills. Additionally, installing an insulated sleeve around the outside of the water heater can save lots of energy and money over time.

Conduct HVAC Maintenance

Change your air filter regularly. Based on its usage, your HVAC filter should be replaced every three-months. Additionally, having your ductwork inspected can help identify other inefficiencies. Worn out filters and leaky ducts degrade system efficiency, costing you money.

Call For Professional Handyman Services

Whether your home requires filter replacements or new caulking for the window jambs, McDowells is the resource for these simple home improvements.
At McDowells Specialty Repair, our team can take care of the jobs around the house that will save you money over time. Our handyman services will help protect your pocket book, maintain energy usage and also make the long winter months cozier. Give us a call today!

Spring Break is rapidly approaching, and now is the time to plan your trip! After getting your vehicle’s interior and exterior restored to all its glory by McDowells Specialty Repair, you want to be able to show it off. That’s right: it’s road trip season!
Boise is the perfect hub for so many amazing travel opportunities: just pick a direction and drive. You’ll end up somewhere spectacular! Here are just a few destination ideas to make your Spring Break the most scenic one yet!

Yellowstone National Park

Geysers and paint pots and bears: oh my! Everywhere you look, Yellowstone National Park is full of remarkable natural phenomenon. Wildlife is everywhere for you to observe and photograph, and popular sites like Old Faithful are a little easier to get a front-row seat for since tourist season doesn’t really start until May. Some roads and shops that you can access at peak season may be closed, but the smaller crowds are worth it!
When making your drive from Boise, make sure to take a route that passes through Rexburg. Bear World is a fun, immersive experience for the whole family! If the weather is a little questionable during your time at the park (which is likely, given the season), West Yellowstone offers some great shops, museums and an IMAX experience to pass the day. Definitely set aside some time to spend at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center; the facility is packed with educational opportunities as well as giving you a chance to get safely up close and personal with these beautiful four-legged friends.

The Oregon Coast

Another great road trip that is practically in our backyard is the rugged Oregon coastline. Spend at least a day in Depoe Bay and take some time whale-watching; peak season for viewing these large aquatic mammals starts in March! Watching the seals and sea lions on the docks is always a cool experience, as well.
With lighthouses and seaside towns to spare, the drive up Highway 101 has so many picturesque memories to capture. Take some time at Cannon Beach to walk and get your picture at Haystack Rock. Then continue up the coastline and take a dip inland to Astoria; this port town is a must-see!

The Redwoods

A little further down Highway 101, there is another “Insta-worthy” destination: the ancient redwood forests of Northern California! These hauntingly beautiful cedar trees and the fern-filled forest floor transport you to a world from the pages of a fairy tale.
Visit the Trees of Mystery and see the giant statues of Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox. Take the trails here for more enchantment: you can almost hear the old trees calling out to you. Complete with the SkyTrail gondola, this is an experience you won’t soon forget. Follow the coastline down to the Petrified Forest near Calistoga, and even spend a day or two in San Francisco before making the trek back. On the return trip to Boise, you can stop off at Crater Lake to view another national treasure!

Whether you decide to take an extended trip this Spring Break or just choose to take a drive around town, McDowells has the know-how to maintain the interior and exterior of your vehicle. Contact McDowells today!

With the 38th Annual Idaho RV Super Show approaching, you may be eager to try out your new toy. If you have yet to experience camping in the winter, then consider giving it a try! Camping in the winter is not for everyone, but it can be if you are well prepared. Here is our guide to a safe and comfortable RV winter trip.

Where to Go Winter Camping in Idaho

First and foremost you may want to know the places you can camp. According to an article from OnlyInYourState, these are the top 8 destinations in Idaho:

    1. Harriman State Park
    2. Lake Cascade State Park
    3. Heyburn State Park
    4. Idaho City
    5. Stanley
    6. Farragut State Park
    7. Bear Lake State Park
    8. Lake Walcott State Park
Before packing your things, make sure the campgrounds are open on the dates you’d like to go. The tranquility of a snow-covered landscape can bring some much needed peace after the holiday chaos. Camping, in general, can help you escape from the busy city life in Boise too.

How Cold Is Too Cold?

An RV is a great way to stay protected from the chilly nights. However, if you find the temperatures sinking to 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below, which it most likely will in Idaho winters, you may want to invest in small space heaters. Also, be sure to cover up any areas where cold air may creep in through window sills or doorways.

Preventing Exterior Damage to Your RV

If you are new to RV camping, then knowing how to properly store and care for your vehicle is a must. You may already know that RVs and other types of travel trailers are not immune to sun damage. However, it’s still important to know that even if you’re leaving your RV in the sun for camping, you still shouldn’t park it in the sun for an extended amount of time when it’s not being used. RVs like any other vehicles can still suffer from sun damage, scratches, dents, and paint chips when not taken care of.
Investing in a well-fitting RV cover will help to protect your investment. But, we all know the elements can get the best of us from time to time. Especially with some harsh winter winds and snow your RV is bound to become dented or scratched at some point. If you want these to be buffed out, then going to a scratch and dent repair shop in Boise will be your best bet. Not only is it affordable, but it will also help your vehicle look as good as new.

Preventing RV Upholstery Damage

The cold air and warm air from within the RV can cause some major condensation. Your RV is at risk for mold if the moisture is not handled properly. This can really put a damper on your camping trip. To prevent your RV’s upholstery from smelling like mildew, invest in a dehumidifier, or raise the temperature from within. Surprisingly, if you keep the inside of your RV warm enough, it can slow condensation on glass surfaces like windows. Thus, your RV upholstery won’t be at risk for mold.

Prepping Your RV for Winter Camping

The same stuff you pack for summer camping is not necessarily the same stuff you’ll be packing for winter. For this season you’ll want to bring the obvious heavy blankets and coats. But if you didn’t already know, you need to do extra maintenance and double the packing to ensure your trip is a safe and comfortable one. Consider following this bulleted list to make sure your RV is prepped and ready for the road ahead.

        • Make sure the batteries are charged
        • Have your headlights restored
        • Bring tire chains
        • Double-check your RV furnace
        • Bring a snow shovel
        • Bring heavy-duty sleeping bags
        • Always check the weather before leaving

Where to Have Your RV Restored

After a trip in the snow, your vehicle may have come back with a few dings and dents. If you’re looking for a place that can repair your RV upholstery or exterior body, McDowells is the perfect place to have both taken care of. On the flip side, if you attended the Idaho RV Super Show and want to make a few changes to the upholstery in your RV or travel trailer, then McDowells can help with that too.

Falling branches, flying rocks, and careless people; sadly, these are just a few of your car’s arch enemies. When you come back after shopping and notice a new dent on your car it is nothing short of aggravating. Your vehicle’s integrity is important for its appearance and resale value. Follow these tips and your car won’t be taking a beating anymore.

Beware Mother Nature

As beautiful as mother nature is this fall, she is still moody. Not only do the leaves fall this time of year, but so do branches and fruit. These heavier objects can be forced to fall due to maturation and extreme weather. Be sure to stay updated with the forecast and move your car accordingly to prevent any unnecessary dents and chips.

Alternatively, if you can only park beneath a tree, consider removing the questionable tree limbs and fruit before leaving it overnight. If you notice the weather is windy, park farther than you usually would to avoid your car door from being swung open by the wind.

Walk a Little Longer

Let’s be honest, we all could use a bit more physical activity in our lives. Park farther than you normally would if you are fed up with shopping cart dings and careless people. We’ve all become accustomed to doing the most convenient thing and squeezing into spots that are way too tight for our vehicles. However, if you are trying to avoid paint chip repairs or dent repairs then walk a little longer. Walking 10,000 steps a day leads to increased health benefits after all.

Spend a Little More

Here in Boise you are given the option to park in a garage as opposed to on the street. It can be worth the investment to shield your car from the busy traffic in downtown or winter weather. Usually in covered parking spots you can keep your vehicle there for longer and not have to constantly go back and forth from the pay-meter too.

If your car does have some minor dents caused by other vehicles, you should invest in paintless dent repair. Your car’s dents will look as if they never happened in the first place. It’s a small price to pay when trying to resell your vehicle too.

Off-Road Prep

We know off-roading is an exciting adventure for you and your friends. However, if you aren’t mindful you will need dent and paint chip repairs after your trip. Flying rocks and mud can harm the exterior of your vehicle. Many off-roaders are aware of this, but if you are a beginner then be prepared to have maintenance on your vehicle before and after your adventure. Drive slower to avoid flying rocks that are kicked up by your tires.

No Shame in Repairs

Even when you try to avoid car dents and paint chips, it happens one way or another. Instead of feeling defeated, there are companies out there that specialize in repairing just that. McDowells repair experts pride themselves on offering their customers the best dent and paint chip repairs in Boise and surrounding areas. Sometimes you just have to go out and treat your car to a few hours at the shop. Your car’s value and appearance will be enhanced afterward. You also won’t be staring at the dents on your car wondering where they came from because they’ll be out of sight and out of mind.

With brisk morning sunrises and bold evening sunsets, it’s hard not to enjoy the outdoors while you still can during this fall season. For those of you with motorcycles, the urge to ride ‘while you can’ is greater than ever with temperatures becoming more bearable throughout the day. But, as excited as you are, you still want your drive to be relaxing too. This means keeping your engine running smoothly and accessories in good shape.

As you may know, it can be hard to maintain your ride by yourself after a jam-packed summer of road trips. This is where professionals check-ups and repairs come to the rescue.

Home Maintenance

There are certain things you can take care of at home in order to uphold the quality and integrity of your ride. This includes checking up on things like:

  • Oil Levels
  • Coolant Levels
  • Chain Cleaning
  • Brakes
  • Air and Fuel Filters
  • Air Pressure
  • Tread

Because most of these are routine checklist items for automobiles, it is important to keep these updated for your motorcycle during the fall as well. Many owners even revert to keeping a notebook or written log of their checkups with dates included. This is a huge help for tracking any usage concerns and maintenance items that need to be purchased.

Professional Maintenance

That being said, it is also important that owners take their motorcycles in for professional maintenance as well. Motorcycles and other automobiles are such complex machines with very detailed mechanisms that require expert care and repair.

Investing in professional maintenance is where the wear-and-tear over long periods of time can be repaired and fixed properly. Repairs that can extend the lifetime of your motorcycle as well as improving your ride experience are:

  • Seat repair
  • Windshield
  • Grips
  • Levers
  • Dent repair
  • Other Adjustables

Seat Repairs for Shock Absorption

One extremely important thing about motor vehicles, of any kind, is their capacity to absorb shock. Motorcycles, in particular, are installed with significant shock absorbers to alleviate the physical toll that riders inevitably experience. This infrastructure is crucial because rider tiredness and fatigue are caused by vehicle shock from accelerating, stopping, bumps, vibrations, and more.

After months of consistent use throughout the summer, your seat can become worn down and/or damaged quite a bit. This limits your seat’s ability to aid in shock absorption. Fortunately, seat repair services not only provide comfort during every one of your rides, but a new seat can also protect you from fatigue during long rides.

Motorcycle seat repair services are a forgotten task during motorcycle maintenance but they are a major cause for concern if not properly repaired. Speak with a professional about whether restoring or repairing your motorcycle seat is something you need to consider.

Forward Thinking in the Fall

Whether or not you are confident in your motorcycle expertise, seeking professional motorcycle care can keep you on the road with your beloved machine for years to come. The fall may be your perfect opportunity to get any repairs done, cosmetic or otherwise, before the winter season creeps closer and it becomes too late.

A good rule of thumb is to clean your car whenever it looks dirty, especially for anyone residing in states that salt their roads or have a lot of dirt roads. Sometimes dirt can affect the paint on your car and cause it to degrade and even change color, which is why knowing these 4 tips can be an effective way to maintain your car’s exterior.

Touchless Car Wash

Especially in Idaho where the car washes look like a ride in a theme park, it can be very tempting to go through them to receive a thorough clean. Sometimes, however, the brushes from the machine are not cleaned after each and every car that goes through. This can cause unnecessary damage to your vehicle, and you may wind up at a dent and scratch repair shop. Going in for a basic clean should not result in more maintenance for your car. These 4 tips will make sure you are spending money where it is due.

1. Clearcoat Protector

You may find car detailing places using this treatment to protect your car’s paint from moisture, UV rays, and oxidation. Instead of having sprayed on wax from your typical drive-through car wash, consider spending a few extra bucks to have your car serviced with a clearcoat protector. The longevity of a car wash spray versus a more hands-on treatment is incomparable.

2. Undercarriage Wash

Once a season this is a great option to have done. It’s easy to pass up this option because you can’t always see the dirt and grime built up underneath. However, if you are wanting to maintain the entirety of your car, having this part pressure washed will aid in rust prevention and mud buildup.

3. Microfiber Towels

These towels should be the only kind used to clean off your car. They’re softer and more absorbent than regular rags. Going the extra mile to get a microfiber cloth can protect your car from scratches and paint chips. Microfiber cloths are specifically made to be as gentle as possible and not leave any fibers behind after drying your vehicle.

4. Headlights

If there is one thing typical car washes cannot clean, it is your foggy headlights. Lots of DIY products don’t cut it nowadays either. Getting your headlights restored will make all the difference and bring value back to your car. Headlight restoration involves extensive polishing and a proper protective coating to ensure that they maintain clarity and shine. Not only is it important for the appearance of your car’s exterior, but it will help keep you and your passengers safe on the road at night.
